Enterprise Solution Architecture: solution design in large business
Solution architecture in enterprise environment is not a stack choice but a solution design considering existing landscape, regulatory constraints, team operational maturity, and long-term strategy. This expert page describes my approach to this work.

How It Should Work
A solution architect must have two competencies simultaneously — deep business understanding (what the company is trying to do, what constraints, what priorities) and technical maturity (stacks, patterns, real implementation experience). Must work with the team, not over it — discussing decisions, not dictating them. Must see the existing landscape (what is there, how it works, where the boundaries are) and the long-term strategy (where the company is moving in 3-5 years). Must leave the team autonomy within architectural principles.
Where Companies Typically Go Wrong
What I Do in These Situations
I work as an independent solution architect for large enterprise projects. Experience includes banking sector, telecom, government programs, retail. Approach — start with business context and existing landscape understanding, then formulate target solution considering constraints and long-term strategy. Work with the client team, not instead of it. Document decisions and architectural principles so the team can continue without me. Independent of vendors — give independent recommendations.
Team role: The client team — internal engineers, team leads, product managers — leads implementation. I work in the architect role at project start (solution formulation, architectural principles, key choices) and at key forks (architectural decision review, dispute resolution, course correction). This gives the team independence with support when needed.
